STAMFORD, Conn. Stamfords Alexandra Stein and Greenwichs Andrew Johnson rowed their first race for the United States Friday in the Paralympic Games in London.
Rowing on the same course used in the Summer Olympics, Johnson and Stein helped the U.S. Mixed Coxed Four finished second in its heat. The U.S. team will compete in the repechage Saturday. The finals are Sunday.
Johnson, who began rowing at the Greenwich Rowing Club and also rowed for Norwalk River Rowing, is a four-year member of the U.S. national team. He helped the adaptive four with coxswain finish sixth at the 2011 World Rowing Championships.
Stein, a graduate of Westhill, is a two-year national team member. She serves as the coxswain for the team, and is a graduate of Dartmouth. She was the cox for the team that finished sixth at the world championships last year.
The U.S. finished second in its heat behind Great Britain. The crew beat Canada, France, Ireland and Belarus.
